Help Wanted for Omaha Bike Map

I read an article recently about four things that were needed to make any city bike friendly. The very first thing mentioned was a good bike map. As it turns out, members of ModeShiftOmaha, OmahaBikes, and PedalHappy are collaborating on an interactive map that will be part of the RideTheCity family. (Disclosure: I am associated with all three organizations.) We’re making decent progress, but we are only three riders with our own specific routes we use. So we’re asking for your help.

If you ride a bike in Omaha to commute, run errands, take the kids to school, etc., we’d sure like to know your favorite routes. So use Endomondo, MyTrack, MapMyRide to create a map of your route and send a link to us at provomaha@gmail.com. In the email, give us a quick rundown of the route, thing like terrain, road conditions, traffic. You know, the kind of stuff another cyclist would be interested in. For your own safety and well-being, please don’t do it from home to office (door to door), but from one general area (like Aksarben Village) to another. If you prefer, you can just send turn by turn instructions to us as well.

As we get these, we’ll “vette” them and get them onto our interactive map as quickly as we can. Our hope is to have Omaha represented on RideTheCity.com before the end of May.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

  1. Another thing that would be wonderful is simple signage along the trail that goes around Offut. I was traveling through Omaha to Lincoln and had no clue where I was as I passed under streets. I missed mine and added many miles to my day. Just a thought.
